What a disappointment! I own this movie on DVD and it is one of my favorite sci-fi titles. But I rented the Blu-ray version and was sorely disappointed at the quality. My first impression, flying through asteroids, was that there was no improvement in quality from the DVD, but it's hard to tell at that point. Then the bright earth scene in the desert flashed in front of me and it looked horrible. It looked like I was watching a dirty copy of a film in a dollar theatre -- and it didn't get any better. I popped in my own DVD and my initial impression was right: there is little difference between the DVD and the "remastered" Blu-ray version. I really wanted to buy the Blu-ray version, but I'll stick to my original.
