This movie was sad, somber, with some hope. It takes place in Canada in the 1600's. The French are coming to Canada and a Jesuit priest sets out on a journey to reach a Huron mission. He risks his life following God's call and learns about himself and the Indians along the way. The father, called Black Robe, by the Indians travels with a young Frenchman, Daniel, and some Algonquin Indians to reach the Huron Indians. The Indians are not sure if they can trust the white men, are they really just demons as some of them believe. This was an interesting movie because you saw more into how the Indians thought. They believed dreams were reality and didn't see why they needed Black Robe's God. The young Frenchman falls for one of the Indians. How will this affect their trip and what the Indians think of them? Along the way they face many hardships in the Canadian winter and lose some people along the way. Black Robe has to face the fact that the Indians may not want to know his God, and why should they try to force them to accept it until they really understand it. It was an interesting movie, also sad and depressing. A good movie. |
