Full Review:
I was not born when the golden age of boxing took place, but I have heard and seen stories about the Greatest boxer of all time. Ali was an athlete that brought the casual viewer to the great sport of boxing. From his charisma to his unbelievable skills everyone wanted to see what this great boxer would do next. Often Ali was underestimated, whether it be him becoming the youngest champion against Sonny Liston, or coming back from a 3 year hiatus due to his refusal to be drafted in the Vietnam War. Somehow though when the 15th round came around, Ali was still standing, floating like a butterfly, stinging like a bee. Facing Ali goes back to the beginning of Ali's career and chronicles through the eyes of George Chuvalo, Sir Henry Cooper, George Foreman, Joe Frazier, Larry Holmes, Ron Lyle, Ken Norton, Ernie Shaver, Leon Spinks, Ernie Terrell all men who met Ali in the ring. This DVD has some great footage and current interviews with each of the great fighters. All of the fighters lives were touched and pushed to the limit by Ali. I was most interested in the interviews with Joe Frazier, because Ali's trash talk toward Frazier was legendary, and there three fights are considered the greatest ever. Frazier still has a healthy respect for Ali, but you had the sense that he still harbored a disdain for some of the things Ali said about him. I was amazed how each of the fighters lives had changed after fighting Ali, and you get to see some of the behind the scenes action before the big fights. The best part of the whole DVD though is the footage of the fights. Ali was a master in the ring and had the heart of a champion. He was supremely confident in his ability and did not care how others viewed his religious views. His views may have been controversial, but no one can deny his boxing prowess. This DVD makes you yearn for the days when boxing was the most important sport in the U.S. I highly recommend this DVD for anyone looking to learn more about Ali, or someone like myself who only knew Ali through limited old footage. Because like Ali said, He must be the greatest.
