New in the theatres: "Mr. and Mrs. Smith". No wonder they're going by fake names because: Gosh, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie are pretty to look at, but they are also pretty lame actors. Brad Pitt is still ripping off Robert Redford for all he's worth and Jolie... well, she's got the smirk and eye brow furrow down, next week let's work on emotions.
It's hard to believe that Pitt wrecked his marriage for Jolie, because the couple rate zilch on the chemistry scale. Remember that episode of WKRP when Jennifer gets a boyfriend and they spend all their time looking at themselves in the mirror? I'm guessing that's what things are like in the Pitt house these days. But pretty, empty heads aside, the real problem with this movie is director Doug Liman totally lost focus and tone.
Action/comedy can be a dicey thing and Liman is far too smug to make it work. Jolie and Pitt don't have the chops to carry the laughs, and Vince Vaughn is great (making up for his performance in Be Cool), but it's almost as if he is acting in a different movie. You want to see a good movie by Limen, go rent "Swingers". You want a good action/comedy? You still can't beat "Kung Fu Hustle". Avoid "Mr. and Mrs. Smith". You have been warned.
